Forex Session Hours in UAE Time: When the Market Is Actually Open

The forex market is open from Sunday evening to Friday evening GST, but the session you trade matters more than the clock.

The forex market opens Sunday evening and closes Friday evening in UAE time

Currency trading runs continuously through the working week, so the market opens late Sunday evening GST and closes late Friday evening GST. There is no single opening bell. Instead, four financial centres take turns, and each brings its own liquidity and character.

Because the UAE sits between Asia and Europe, your trading day overlaps Tokyo in the morning, London from midday, and New York from late afternoon. That geography is convenient. You can watch the Asian open before work, the London open at lunch, and the New York open in the evening without changing your sleep.

The practical question is not whether the market is open but whether the session you are watching suits your schedule and your approach. A quiet Asian range behaves very differently from a London breakout.

Hours are given for the clocks currently in force: London stays on GMT until 28 March, and New York stays on EDT until 1 November. The UAE does not change clocks, so each move shifts these local times by an hour and the page is rebuilt on the day it happens.

Sydney and Tokyo cover the UAE morning, London takes the afternoon

Sydney runs from 01:00 to 10:00 GST, so the trading week begins while most of the country sleeps. Tokyo follows from 04:00 to 13:00 GST, which means the Asian session is in full flow during your morning commute and working hours.

Liquidity in these hours is thinner than later in the day. Ranges can be narrower and sudden moves less common, though Japanese and Australian data releases still create activity. If your schedule only allows early trading, this is the window you will know best.

London then opens at 12:00 GST and runs to 21:00 GST. For anyone in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, this is the most convenient major session: it starts around lunchtime and covers the whole afternoon and early evening.

New York runs through the UAE evening, and the overlap is the busiest window

New York trades from 16:00 to 01:00 GST, so the American session unfolds during your evening. That suits residents who cannot watch charts during the working day, though it does mean late finishes if you trade the close.

The London and New York sessions overlap between 16:00 and 21:00 GST. Both centres are active at once, which typically brings the deepest liquidity and the strongest reactions to US and European data. For many UAE-based traders this four-hour window is the one worth planning around.

After 21:00 GST, London has closed and New York runs alone until 01:00 GST. Moves can still happen, particularly around US afternoon announcements, but conditions thin out as the evening progresses.

Brokers usually also ask for proof of address - Ejari or utility bill; requirements differ per firm. Brokers publish what they accept on the page where the account is opened.

Your broker's platform clock and your bank's transfer times are separate matters

Session times tell you when markets are active. They do not tell you when your broker processes a deposit. Funding by bank transfer, local transfer, card or international wire each has its own cut-off and settlement pattern, and these are set by the broker and your bank, not by the forex market.

Before you rely on money arriving in time for a session, check the broker's funding page for processing times and confirm the expected arrival window in your banking app. If you are unsure whether a firm may serve UAE residents, the CMA register of licensed companies at uaecma.gov.ae is the public starting point onshore.

Remember that three regimes coexist here: the Capital Market Authority onshore, the DFSA in the DIFC and the FSRA in the ADGM. Which licence a broker holds determines who handles a complaint, so it is worth knowing before you open an account rather than after.

A platform is software, not a safeguard: the same terminal is offered by licensed and unlicensed firms alike. The licence question is answered on the register, not in the app store.

Pick one window and stay consistent rather than chasing every open

A common mistake is trying to trade Sydney, Tokyo, London and New York in the same week. Each session has a different rhythm, and switching between them makes it hard to judge whether your results come from a method or from the hour you happened to choose.

If your working day is fixed, the London afternoon or the London-New York overlap usually fits best. If your evenings are free, New York alone may suit you. If you only have early mornings, accept the quieter Asian conditions and adjust expectations accordingly.

Whichever window you choose, note the times in your own calendar in GST and review them when daylight saving changes in London or New York. Those shifts move the overlap, even though your local clock does not change.

An indicative rate is for sizing a position in your head, not for settling one. The conversion your broker applies sits some way from this number, and the gap is yours to pay.

The session clock tells you when prices move, not when your money moves

A common mistake is to treat the session timetable as a funding timetable. The market being open in UAE time says nothing about whether a bank transfer initiated from your account will settle before you want to place a trade. These are separate clocks and they rarely agree.

The practical order of operations is to fund first, then plan the session. A transfer sent during the London window may still clear on the bank's own schedule, which does not follow Sydney, Tokyo, London or New York. Check the cut-off times inside your bank's transfer app before you plan anything around a session.

The failure mode is a trader who reads that London takes the UAE afternoon, transfers money at the start of that window, and then finds the balance unavailable. Nothing is broken. The bank rail simply runs on its own timetable. Treat the session calendar as a market guide only, and the bank app as the authority on when funds arrive.

What should slow you down
What you seeWhat to check
A fixed monthly return, promised in advanceAsk which licence permits it, then look the firm up on the CMA register of licensed companies.
A deposit asked for in gift cards or vouchersCheck the broker's own funding page: firms list bank, card and wallet rails, not vouchers.
Someone offering to trade the account for youManaging money for a client is a separate permission. The register says whether a firm holds it.
A withdrawal released only after a new paymentRead the withdrawal terms you agreed to. When a payout occurs, any fee invented then is not in them.

None of this is a judgement about any firm. Each line is a check you can run yourself, starting at uaecma.gov.ae.

Deciding which window suits you is a question about your day, not about the market

The busiest window is not automatically the right one. An expatriate working standard UAE office hours cannot watch the New York overlap without disrupting sleep, and a trader who forces it will make decisions while tired. The better question is which window fits the hours you already keep.

The UAE morning covers Sydney and Tokyo, which suits early risers and anyone with a quiet start. The afternoon belongs to London, which fits a lunch break or a flexible working day. The evening carries New York and the overlap, which suits people whose commitments end late.

Consistency matters more than picking the theoretically strongest window. A trader who watches the same window every day learns how that window behaves and how their own attention holds up. Switching windows week by week produces neither familiarity nor a reliable routine. Choose the one your schedule can actually protect.

A register says whether a firm holds a licence on the day you look, and nothing about how it treats clients. The brand will not be on the register; the legal entity in the footer should be.

Before you trade any window, confirm who holds your money and who supervises them

Session timing is irrelevant if the firm on the other side is not properly supervised. In the UAE, the Capital Market Authority publishes a register of licensed companies at uaecma.gov.ae. Checking that register is a step to take before funding, not after a problem appears.

The register is a public list, and reading it takes minutes. Confirm the entity you are dealing with appears there, and confirm the details match what the broker's own pages state. If the names differ, or the entity is absent, that discrepancy is the finding. Do not proceed on the strength of a marketing page alone.

Funding itself runs mainly through bank transfer, with local bank transfer, card and international wire also in use. The broker's own funding page is the place to read which methods it accepts and what each one requires. No guide can substitute for that page, and no session window changes what it says.
